Introduction : History of the University

1902 The foundation of Kyoto Girl's Handicraft School, the precursor of Kyoto Tachibana Educational Institution.
1967 Tachibana Women's University is established with a single Faculty of Humanities, and departments specializing in English, Japanese and History.
1988 The name changed to Kyoto Tachibana Women's University.
1992 Research Institute for Foreign Language Education is established.
1994 Graduate School of Humanities is established.
1997 Department of Cultural Properties and Heritage is established within the Faculty of Humanities
2000 Institute for Research into Cultural Policy is established.
2001 Faculty of Cultural Policy is established.
2003 Graduate School of Cultural Policy established.
2005 The University changed its name to Kyoto Tachibana University after going co-educational. Department of Contemporary Management is established in the Faculty of Cultural Policy.
Research Institute for Foreign Language Education is reorganized as the Language Education Center.
Faculty of Nursing is established.
Institute for Cross-cultural and International Nursing Studies established.
2006 Nurse Training Center is established.
2007 Department of Childhood Education is established in the Faculty of Humanities.
Teacher Training Support Center is established.
2008 Faculty of Contemporary Business is established (name of Faculty of Cultural Policy changed).
Department of Cultural Policy reorganized into a newly-established Department of Urban Environmental Design.
Graduate School of Nursing established.
2010 Faculty of Human Development and Communication are established with the Department of Childhood Education and the Department of English Communication reorganized into it.
2011 General Education Center is established with divisions for General Education, Core Curriculum, and for First-year Experience and Career Education. The former Language Education Center is incorporated into the Core Curriculum Division, which also includes the International Office.
2012 Faculty of Health Sciences is established with two new departments recognized: the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department of Psychology, the latter having a distance learning program attached to it.
Department of Cultural Properties and Heritage is reorganized into a newly-established Department of Historical Heritage.
Institute for the Promotion of Academic Research is established with the following organs attached: Institute for Women's History and Culture, Integrated Research Center, Center for Regional Policy and the Promotion of External Relations, Center for Cross-cultural Nursing and the Promotion of External Relations.
2013 Ryoichi Hosokawa is appointed as the 11th president
Center for Clinical Psychology is established.
2014 Doctoral Program is established in the Graduate School of Nursing.
Center for Regional Collaboration is established (Regional Policies and Social Alliance Promotion Center are reorganized).
2015 Faculty of Contemporary Business Department of Management is established (Department of Contemporary Management is reorganized).
“Kyoyukan” is completed.
2016 Department of Paramedic Science is established in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Master’s Program is established in the Graduate School of Health Sciences.
2017 Department of English and Global Communication is established in the Faculty of English and Global Communication (Faculty of Human Development and Communication Department of English Communication is reorganized).
Department of Childhood Education is established in the Faculty of Human Development and Education (Faculty of Human Development and Communication Department of Childhood Education is reorganized).
2018 Department of Occupational Therapy and Department of Medical Technology and Sciences are established in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
"Keiseikan" is completed.
2019 A Doctoral Program is established in the Graduate School of Contemporary Business.
Eiko Hibino is appointed as the 12th president
The Research Center for Life and Health Sciences is established.
2021 The Faculty of Economics is established.
The Faculty of Business Administration is established.
The Faculty of Engineering is established.
A Doctoral Program is established in the Graduate School of Health Sciences.
The new “Academic Links” building is completed.
